Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council

Regular Meeting of 07/11/2001

The meeting was called to order at 7:08 p.m. by Jane Fanganiello. There were about 85 people in attendance. Mary Waters led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Guest Introductions

Guests at the meeting included Matthew Fitzgerald, our new project manager from DONE; Gretchen Hoffman, reporter from the Foothill Leader; Wendy Greuel and Gina Ruiz Goldman, candidates for City Council District 2 (the seat being vacated by Joel Wachs).

Program

John Waters gave a presentation on the question of whether the Neighborhood Council should be a non-profit or ãunincorporatedä for-profit organization. He handed out a summary of the main differences between the two types of organizations, which is attached. At the conclusion of the program, Jane Fanganiello presented John with a Certificate of Appreciation for his work on the bylaws.

New Business

La Rocca Inspections:Ê Tomi Lyn Bowling introduced John from La Rocca Inspections. The company has been in business for 20 years and is headquartered in a home in Tujunga. John is in escrow on the purchase of the Ad-Mart store on Commerce. The company found out after the purchase that the property is governed by the provisions of the Foothill Blvd. Corridor Specific Plan. Since the business is not primarily retail, it needs a waiver to go through. A non-binding straw poll was taken, and the majority of the members appeared to support the request.

Bonners Equipment Rental:Ê Tim Morelli of Bonners stated that he is trying to buy the ãCentral Towingä property on Foothill Blvd. The Specific Plan prohibits open storage, so the company needs a waiver for the purchase to go through. Kathy Anthony moved to support the purchase of the property. Seconded. Passed.

New Project:Ê The group discussed the possibility of fixing up an empty piece of land at the corner of Foothill and McVine in Sunland. Jane Fanganiello has spoken to the owner of the property about making improvements to the property, and has received a favorable response. It was decided by consensus that more investigation should be made into the project.
